2010 Papa Johns Bowl:
South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Connecticut Huskies
A post-season NCAA managed football game called Papa John’s Bowl was given the green light in April 2006 at Alabama’s Legion Field in Birmingham. ESPN’s regional subsidiary called ESPN Regional Television holds ownership or possession of all the legal rights concerning Papa John’s Bowl. Also, management of this bowl reserves the authority for sponsorships and marketing related concerns.
It was in November 16, 2006 that Papa John’s Pizza officially acquired the sponsor title for a multi-year contract with Birmingham Bowl, the former name of Papa John’s Bowl.
Initially, the agreement between Conference USA and Papa John’s Bowl was at a four-year term. However due to motions of appeal for extending the term, the NCAA issued a certificate in April 2008. In 2008 and comes the year 2009, the side of the Southeastern Conference’s low performing eligible entrants as well as entrants from the side of the Big East Conference will be having a face-off. On a side note, these teams are allowed to compete so long as each of them holds title of eligibility. Failure to fulfill commitments to the bowl’s terms will merit replacement from the side of the Sun Belt Conference.
As of 2006, Papa John’s Bowl had been operating under the name of Papajohns.com Bowl instead of Papa John’s Bowl. This action was done in response to the advertising intentions of Papa John’s Pizza.
Despite the alternating nature of the Sun Belt Conference with the other regular parties, the payout for the respective colleges under Papajohns.com Bowl has the payout of $300,000 each. Get your Papa John’s Bowl tickets now to get good seats!
